Tom Van Waelem

My Journey

I’m a jack of all trades, with a decade in the army, studying while on missions in Africa, becoming a salesperson, and ultimately an entrepreneur. I’ve always been on the lookout for the right problem to solve, and when I met Diego, I knew we had found it at the perfect time. The property management industry is ready for change, and we are here to deliver that transformation.

About Me

My name is Tom van Waelem, and I grew up in Belgium. In 2012, I met my American wife, and in 2016, I migrated to the USA. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, constantly seeking new opportunities. I spent 10 years in the Belgian army before going back to school at 26 to become a Registered Emergency Nurse. In America, I held various sales jobs and worked as a roofing consultant before meeting Diego, which led us to start Cavalry together.

What I Love About Property Management

I’m drawn to the entrepreneurial spirit within the property management industry. Everyone in this field is focused on providing the best possible service, and there's a constant drive to learn, improve, and innovate. It’s a dynamic, ever-evolving industry with endless opportunities for growth and development, and I love being part of it.

Most Fulfilling Part of the Job

The most fulfilling part of my job is knowing that we’re solving a massive problem. I find great satisfaction in helping people, as it provides real value. The financial success that comes from solving these problems is a natural result of the impact we make. Our work touches so many lives—vendors, tenants, landlords, property managers, and property management company owners—and I’m proud of the difference we’re making.

Hobbies & Interests

My family, my wife, my daughter, and one day, cars. I’m an automotive YouTube addict and dream of becoming an amateur racecar and drift car driver. When I’m behind the wheel, I forget about everything else. It’s my escape from the daily madness of life, and one day, I’ll turn it into a passion I can pursue on the track.
